STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY

POWERING RESEARCH

about us.
The UDS-BSL3 facility is a DBT-supported National facility for providing a state-of-the-art biosafety containment laboratory to various TB researchers across the country for their research activities. This world-class facility was established in 2009 and has been used by various investigators since then resulting in a number of important publications and significant research findings.
The main goal of this facility is to encourage TB research in the country and facilitate towards a better understanding in TB research and translational outcomes.
Why Us...

Experience the Difference
Since the main goal of the facility is to provide a boost to TB research, we try to accomodate each and every user without affecting their research and time. The facility also has a provision for carrying out aerosol infection studies.

equipments available

ABSL-3 facility
The UDSC-BSL3 facility has an animal holding room which comprises of a fully functional individually ventilated caging (IVC) system that can house 360 guinea pigs and 640 mice at a time. We have a dedicated staff to look after the animals for their care, food, water and bedding arrangements. We also have services of a veterinarian doctor to look after the health of the animals. The animals are routinely monitored and extreme care is taken for their welfare.

Scope of Research at BSL-3 facility
User friendly environment
The users are provided conducive research environment, easy access to various equipments/instruments required for their work.

Various in vitro studies on the pathogenic strains
The two biosafety cabinets are dedicated for the in vitro work related to the bacterial work. Numerous experiments such as culturing of mycobacteria, generation of gene knockouts, in vitro stress experiments, electroporations, CFU platings etc. can be performed.

Excellent tissue culture lab
The tissue culture lab is equipped with a dedicated biosafety cabinet for all cell culturing work. Lab has three carbon dioxide incubators, various microscopes including a fluorescence microscope, FACS machine etc. are available. Numerous experiments such as infection of cell lines with mycobacterial strains, cytotoxicity studies, FACS analysis etc, can be performed.

ABSL-3 facility
There is an excellent Animal BSL-3 facility available in the laboratory. The animal holding room has IVC systems for safe and hygienic housing os small animals (mice and guinea pigs). The facility also houses a animal change station and an aerosol chamber for aerosol route infection of animals. Various animal studies such as protective efficacy studies of vaccine candidates, therapeutic evaluation of drug candidates, virulence studies of various mycobacterial strains and survival studies can be performed.
